Paying for your Australia Broadband subscription

When switching to Australia Broadband, you’ll be asked to provide your credit or debit card details in order to pay for the charge of your monthly subscription.

Your initial payment

Before we order your nbn™ subscription, we will either process the modem fee (if you opted to purchase our modem) or your 1st-month plan fee (if you opted to bring your own modem) upfront and in advance. Upfront payment is required to process any Australia Broadband order.

If you opted to bring your own modem and paid your 1st month plan charge as part of your initial payment, your account balance will be in credit pending your 1st bill. You won’t be billed for your subscription until your nbn service is activated.

Your 1st bill – what is it and when will I be charged?

On or shortly after your activation date, we will bill you from the date of activation to the end of the month. This is called a pro-rata bill.

For example, if you’re ordered an NBN Premium 100 plan for $95 per month and your service is activated on the 15th of the month, you will be billed pro-rata charge of $49.97 to pay for 16 days of service from the 15th to the 31st (or the end of the month).

How do we calculate pro-rata charges?

The calculation used to determine the pro-rata amount is the Monthly Plan Charge X 12 Months divided by 365 days = Daily Rate X the number of days (from the activation date to the end of the month). For example, $95 X 12 Months = $1,140, divided by 365 Days = $3.12 per day X 16 days = $49.97)

Did you bring your own modem?

If you have opted to bring your own modem and paid your 1st month as part of your initial payment, the pro-rata bill will be deducted from your initial payment balance. Depending on when your service is activated, you might have credit left over after your 1st bill to pay part of your 2nd bill.

Did you buy a modem from us?

If you have opted to buy a modem from us, your pro-rata bill be debited from your payment method on your activation date. For example, if your ordered an NBN Premium 100 plan for $95 per month and your service is activated on the 15th of the month, we will debit a pro-rata amount of $49.97 from your payment method to pay for 16 days of service from the 15th to the the 31st (or the end of the month).

Your 2nd Bill and moving forward – when will I be charged?

Moving forward, you’ll be billed and debited on or about the 1st day of each month AEST/AEDT (billing month) for that month’s service. You’ll need to pay your bill using direct debit using a credit or debit card.

No Bill Shock Guaranteed

You will only be charged for your monthly subscription on the 1st of month (or shortly after). This is a fixed monthly amount limited to your monthly subscription, that way you know how much you will be debited on the 1st of each month.

Post-Paid Customers

If you are a post-paid customer that joined prior to 31 December 2017, you’ll be billed and debited on due date (or the next business day) as stated on your bill for that month’s service. If you don’t have a direct debit, you’ll need to make a manual payment.

Miscellaneous Bills – what are they and when will I be charged?

A miscellaneous bill is only raised on an ad-hoc basis and with your prior knowledge and consent. Miscellaneous charges may include:

  1. NBN Co New Development Charge or NBN Co Non-Standard Install
  2. NBN Co incorrect call-out

We will send you a miscellaneous bill on or around the 6th of the month and you’ll have 7 days to pay it. This bill is separate from your monthly subscription charge for your nbn™ service. You’ll need to pay this bill using direct debit from your credit or debit card.

No Surprises Guaranteed

You will never receive a miscellaneous bill from us unless you know about it in advance and you have given your consent to incur the miscellaneous charge. You’ll also get 7 days to pay it so there are no surprises and you can better manage your budget.

A small number of homes may be subject to an NBN Co New Development Charge of $300 or NBN Co Non-Standard Install of $297. If your new address is subject to any of these NBN Co charges, we’ll let you know before the installation and get your permission before you’re charged.
